Llama-3[8B] Meditron V1.0 is an 800 million parameter large language model (LLM) specially designed for the biomedical field. Fine-tuning was completed within 24 hours after Meta released Llama-3. The model surpasses all existing open models at the same parameter level in standard benchmark tests such as MedQA and MedMCQA, and is close to the performance of Llama-2[70B]-Meditron, the leading open model in the medical field at the 70B parameter level. This work demonstrates the innovative potential of the open foundation model and is part of a larger initiative to ensure equitable participation in access to this technology in resource-poor areas.
