Project Green Light is an AI-driven project developed by Google's research team that aims to reduce vehicle emissions by optimizing the timing of traffic lights to reduce traffic congestion and stop-start phenomena. The project leveraged driving trend data from Google Maps to create an AI model that analyzed traffic flow and identified opportunities to optimize traffic light timing. Cities can implement these recommendations quickly and easily without investing in new hardware or software. Currently implemented at more than 70 intersections, it has the potential to reduce the number of stops by up to 30% and reduce intersection emissions by up to 10%.
